Obituary: Robert S. Goshdigian

Robert S. Goshdigian of South Windsor passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on January 1st, 2025 at the age of 81. Bob was born in Hartford Hospital to Sarkis and Shake Goshdigian. The oldest of three children, he grew up in Hartford and spoke fondly of playing in Pope Park with his siblings and cousins. Bob graduated from Hartford Public High School where he excelled as a clarinet player. He then went on to receive his BA and Law degrees from the University of Connecticut.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country in Vietnam. Bob met Alicia, his wife of 52 years at an Armenian Students Association ski weekend in Vermont. They married in Hartford in 1972 and eventually made their home in South Windsor in 1980, where together they raised their son Alexei. After working as a federal attorney and eventually becoming Assistant District Council for the Veterans Administration in Connecticut, he retired to spend more time with his family, and was very involved in his son’s activities, to whom he passed on his love of music and sports. He enjoyed his early morning trips to Mohegan Sun, trading stocks, and was an avid UConn basketball fan. Bob loved traveling to Europe and through the United States, going on cruises, bike-riding, playing golf, tennis, and ping-pong with friends and his son. Most of all, he enjoyed spending quality time with his family, friends, and especially his two grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his wife Alicia; son Alexei Goshdigian and his wife Katie of Glastonbury; grandchildren Luke and Emma; sister Jane Garabedian and her husband Edward of Wilbraham, MA; brother Richard Goshdigian of West Hartford, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on January 10th at 10am at St. George Armenian Church in Hartford, followed by a celebration of life at Rockledge Grille in West Hartford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to FAR, the Fund for Armenian Relief, at farusa.org, or to St. George Armenian Church.
