Reflection
“And these words which I command you this day shall be upon your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
Deuteronomy 6:5-7
How often do we think of parenting as a ministry, instrument and institute that nurtures faith, creates and secures a safe environment where our children can encounter the living and life-giving God? It is so much easier to hope that the pastor at some point and in some way will be able to draw our children to faith, church and community, that the parish or the youth minister will come up with an event or program that will make our children start attending church and fall in love with their faith, heritage and community.
Unfortunately, more often than not it does not work that way. The miracle of faith takes place and is born out of the loving embrace of a family, community and pastor working, praying and living the faith together, always and in all things radiating and reflecting God in our actions, decisions and priorities.
