In today’s Scripture reading from 2 Corinthians, St. Paul writes this:
“Look at what is before your eyes. If you are confident that you belong to Christ, remind yourself of this, that just as you belong to Christ, so also do we.”
Seeing God in those around us, finding Christ’s reflection in people we disagree with, despise and dislike, is what we are called to strive and do. It is not a sentimentality, but a way of life, an invitation to look at the world through the lenses of God’s sacrificial love. I am convinced that the mere attempt to see Christ beyond and above our differences, skin color, political or religious affiliation actively heals and transforms the world we live in, prevents injustice, suffering and death, restores God’s peace and presence in our society.
May the Lord bless the souls of the victims who perished during 9/11 attacks, may he sustain and strengthen their families and loved ones.
